Certificate of Merit 2006

We have completed our Branch evaluations for Certificate of Merit for this year. I want to thank all the CM chairs, Nelly Kras, Linda Rohmund, Charlotte Barry-Williams, Connie Venti, Pama Lynn Broeckel and the site hostesses, Robin Sassi, Phyllis Bouck, and Julia Klaerich. It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, well with CM that is really the case. Each chair put in countless hours and teachers came to work. I want to thank all the teachers who graciously gave of their time. We cannot have this fine program without everyone’s help.

I want to address a question that I receive every year and that is why don’t we have a branch honor’s recital. For many years we did have beautiful recitals. However the work to put on about 8 recitals, and that’s what it would take, and combine with all our students of all disciplines, keyboards, wind, voice and strings, takes as much time as hosting a site for a weekend. For many of us, this would be our fourth or more weekend involved with CM and we can’t give any more of our time. It would take someone to come forward to coordinate this event separately from the CM weekends. We sent out a questionnaire about four years ago and the consensus was to forgo this event and just give the students the seal on their certificates. If anyone feels strongly that this event should be reinstated, they can contact me for information.

The annual MTAC State Convention will be held in Los Angeles at the historic Billtmore Hotel. I have visited the hotel and it is truly a beautiful venue for our convention. Remember to qualify, the student must receive a good or excellent on sight-reading and technique, 80% on theory, and a 5- (in some cases 4+) on the convention piece.

2. Click on Convention Recitals.
3. Click on convention Recital Final Application Instruction.
