Wow, what a turnout we had for the Jane Bastien Master Class on Monday, January 23, 2006!! It was great to see so many teachers from our branch as well as teachers from our neighbors to the South, the San Diego Branch. Thank you to Greene Music for allowing us the use of the recital hall for the auditions and the master class and for the fabulous refreshments for us to enjoy (breaking the no food or drink rule in the hall for us!!)

Many thanks to all of the teachers who entered students in the Master Class Auditions! The evaluator felt that ALL of the students were very well prepared and performed beautifully. Our sincere appreciation to Jane Bastien for her time and energy and her sensitivity to the students in the class! We have gotten a lot of great feedback from the students and teachers that everyone benefited from this wonderful experience.

CONGRATULATIONS to these Master Class Participants and their Teachers:

Our Branch offers a senior scholarship for outstanding seniors for their continuation of music education after high school.

The deadline for Senior Scholarship applications will be March 1, 2006. Application and information is located on our website on the “Calendar” page. Senior Scholarship auditions will be held on Saturday April 8, 2006 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Greene Music in San Marcos. For any questions, please contact Anne Neesby by email at anniesmeadow@hotmail.com or by phone at 760-722-1206.

The Winter Festival was held on January 28th at the NAMM Building in Carlsbad. The theme was Romantic music. Over 95 students representing 16 studios in our branch performed in recitals throughout the day. All students received engraved medals, and ribbons in three categories were awarded (Superior, Excellent, and Good). Many thanks to Nelly Kras and Hannah Kogan who co-chaired this festival. Thanks to all the teachers who entered their students and helped to make the day run so smoothly.

Certificate of Merit 2006

This year we are asking all teachers to download the letters from the North San Diego website and give each student the information for theory, CM sites, and evaluation times.
Go to Programs/Festivals, then scroll down to Certificate of Merit, then click on CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION located right under the chairs’ phone numbers. In the event that you cannot download these letters, please call Jane Masur and I will send you hard copies.

It is necessary to thoroughly read the teacher’s letter and follow all instructions. The teacher’s letter is the Final BBE Letter. (from the old Big Brown Envelope days).

Student Letter: Please copy one letter per student you have registered. On March 1 you will receive an email from Linda Rohmund with the times, locations, and room numbers for your students. Please transfer this information to your student’s letter carefully. Any mistakes would be very unfortunate as there is no way to evaluate the students at any other time.

Theory: You will find instructions to the theory site with the procedures for this year. Please go over this with each of your students. REMEMBER THE THEORY TEST IS GIVEN ON MARCH 4. Only in an extreme emergency will the written test be given at another time. Please call Nelly Kras if such an emergency occurs. Only a teacher may arrange for another time, not the parent. Do not give the phone numbers of our CM chairs. Their jobs are difficult enough without receiving extra phone calls.

Directions to the Sites: We have provided written directions to all sites. It would be helpful if you highlighted the site your student will be assigned so that no confusion will occur. We have included the addresses so that the parents can use map-quest for very detailed instructions if they prefer.

After the weekend, your students’ results will be mailed to your home by the end of March. For teachers with Path B, tests and materials will be included. If your student had to drop from Path A, you may give them the test at a later time as a Path B student. Certificates will be included in your packet and branch honor seals if appropriate.

Teachers’ work assignments will be emailed to you in the next few weeks. Teachers are required to work or to provide a qualified MTAC teacher as a sub, or pay for a sub to be hired to replace you. We regret that if the teacher fails to complete their assigned work contract their students’ results will not be provided and you will be unable to register students in the future.
