Youth musicales are an opportunity for students to perform
in a non-competitive setting. The September musicale will
take place at the Dove Library Auditorium in Carlsbad. Register
your students by logging into our NSDMTAC website. Use the
“Login” link
in the left-hand column. Pay your student fees through the
“Programs/Festivals” link in the left-hand column on our NSDMTAC
website. Scroll down to “Youth Musicales” and click on the
yellow “Add to Cart” box. This “cart” will lead you to PAYPAL.
All registration fees will be paid through PAYPAL. Registration
open/close dates will be sent to you by email. Please make

This festival is non-competitive, however we will have one
evaluator. Each student will receive a participation trophy,
evaluation form and sheet music at each recital.
This festival includes Contemporary composers (composers
alive in 1950 through 2011) and Popular Music. Performances
may also include student compositions and improvisations,
as well as duets. All instruments are welcome to participate.
Students perform one piece and it must be memorized. Please
provide your music for the evaluator. (Duets do not have to
be memorized.) No photocopies will be allowed. Music purchased
via the internet must show proof of payment in order to be
used.

This is a competition for Sonata and Sonatina selections that
is open to all instruments. Students are divided into recital
groups according to age. Judges choose winners for each group...1st,
2nd, 3rd place, and honorable mentions. This year’s festival
will be held at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad. To register

This year, our branch will have two competitive categories
for the Bach Festival.
1) The "Johann" category will be the most competitive
where winning students will be eligible to move on to Regionals
and possibly the Complete Works Auditions. All details and
rules can be found at the official Southern California Junior
Bach Festival website at www.scjbf.org. Please see the website
for the list of repertoire that is acceptable for the Complete
Works Auditions.
2) The "Anna Magdalena/Baroque" category is for
students who wish to perform works by Bach (that will not
be eligible for Regionals or Complete Works Auditions) or
any other Baroque composer. The "Anna Magdalena/Baroque"
competition will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place to students
by level. Please note students registered in the "Anna
Magdalena/Baroque" category will not be eligible to move
on to Regionals or Complete Works Auditions.
1st, 2nd, 3rd place will be awarded in three different levels
(Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced). The levels will coincide
with CM Syllabus. Elementary (Preparatory-Level 3), Intermediate(Level
4- Level 7) and Advanced (Level 8- Level 10).
The festival will be held at the First Presbyterian Church
in Oceanside. Registration for both "Johann" and
"Anna Magdalena/Baroque" must be done through the
official Southern California Junior Bach Festival website
at www.scjbf.org. There is no student limit for any studio.
All piano or organ students are welcome to participate. For
questions regarding registration, contact one of the festival
chairs.

This is a Local and State competition for vocalists, orchestral
instrumentalists and chamber ensembles. Winners of the State
competition will perform at the State Convention and receive
cash prizes. For a complete list of ages, categories and literature
requirements, contact the VOCE Chair. There is also a non-competitive
part of this event which includes other musical ensembles,
such as duets for piano, piano-duos, sonatas for piano and
other instruments etc. The location for VOCE is TBA.

Certificate of Merit is a comprehensive program of music
evaluation for students offering annual adjudication in keyboard,
strings, winds and voice. Students of all ages are welcome
to participate. The students are evaluated in the following
five areas: performance, sight-reading, theory, ear training
and technique. Each student is registered in one of ten levels
by November 15. The evaluation takes place in March. For more

format with mixed instrumentation and piano solos. This festival
is semi-competitive. Students can earn medals and ribbons.
